Senate unlikely to approve additional subsidy for PhilHealth
The Philippine Senate is unlikely to approve an additional P70 billion subsidy for PhilHealth as it begins discussions on the 2025 national budget. Senate President Francis Escudero emphasized that PhilHealth has substantial unused funds and should clarify its financial management. The Department of Finance recently ordered the transfer of P89.9 billion in unused PhilHealth funds to the Bureau of the Treasury, prompting legal challenges. The Supreme Court has issued a temporary restraining order against transferring P59.9 billion of these funds. The House of Representatives plans to ratify the 2025 budget before the Christmas break. House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe stated that the budget will ensure continuity in government spending and programs.
