Senator Cornyn seeks access to ethics report on Matt Gaetz following resignation
Republican Senator John Cornyn expressed a strong interest in reviewing an unreleased congressional ethics report on Matt Gaetz. Gaetz recently resigned from the House of Representatives, ending an ethics probe into allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing. He was also investigated by the Justice Department for nearly three years over sex trafficking allegations but was informed in 2023 that he would not face criminal charges. Cornyn stated that there should be no limits on the Senate's investigation as they consider Gaetz for the position of attorney general. He confirmed his desire to see the ethics report.
