Sensitization program on sexual harassment held in Dimapur
A program to raise awareness about the Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act was held at the deputy commissioner's office in Dimapur on Monday. The event aimed to discuss how to implement the 2013 law effectively. Extra assistant commissioner Litsenthung Kikon led the meeting. He pointed out that many cases of workplace sexual harassment are not reported in Naga society due to a lack of awareness. However, he noted that progress has been made in enforcing the law at the district level. Kikon mentioned that letters have been sent to various departments. These letters urged them to set up internal complaints committees (ICCs) to handle sexual harassment cases. He explained that each ICC should have a woman as the president and three other members, with at least half of them being women. The committee members will serve for three years. While the act was passed in 2013, Kikon indicated that its implementation in the region is still developing. He emphasized that initiatives like this sensitisation program are crucial for educating employees about their rights. Other speakers, including Moanenla Yaden from the Child Welfare Committee, Elizabeth Humtsoe from City Law College, and Alomi Sumi from the Child Helpline, highlighted that many women are still unaware of their rights under the law.
