Seven bodies recovered from migrant boat capsized in Cyprus
Cyprus authorities recovered seven bodies after a migrant boat capsized off its coast. Two survivors were found in international waters about 30 nautical miles southeast of the island. The boat reportedly had 20 or 21 people on board. The vessel is believed to have departed from Tartous, Syria. An advocacy group, Alarmphone, alerted authorities about the boat's distress before the incident. Cyprus has increased vigilance in response to rising migrant crossings. Last year, Cyprus suspended asylum applications from Syrians due to the influx of migrants arriving by boat. The search and rescue operation is ongoing, with more individuals still unaccounted for.
