Severe storms and snow disrupt post-holiday travel across the US
Severe weather alerts are in effect across the U.S. as millions of Americans return home after the Christmas holiday. The National Weather Service has warned of travel disruptions due to storms, fog, and flooding. As of Thursday afternoon, over 2,600 flights were delayed and nearly 470 canceled. Heavy snow and rain from an atmospheric river are affecting the Pacific Northwest, while dense fog and flash floods are causing issues in central and southern states. Travelers are advised to avoid peak travel times, especially between noon and 5 p.m. on Thursday. Conditions are expected to improve by Friday, but busy travel is anticipated through January 1.
