SFC visits Tinsukia to improve local governance
On Wednesday, the chairman of the State Finance Commission (SFC), Lieutenant General (retd) Rana Pratap Kalita, visited Tinsukia. His aim was to enhance local governance and financial management. Kalita held two important meetings. The first included local officials such as the zila parishad's chief executive officer, block development officers, and gram panchayat secretaries. Key departments like agriculture and public health were also represented. The second meeting focused on municipal boards. Kalita spoke with board presidents, executive officers, and town planning officials. The district development commissioner, Pabitra Kumar Das, led both sessions, promoting useful discussions. Kalita emphasized the importance of fiscal transparency. He stated that better financial management would improve services for citizens. He also noted that local feedback is crucial for developing effective financial strategies. The Assam finance department has charged the commission with creating recommendations for tax distribution and strengthening local finances among panchayats and municipalities.
