Shaina Nitura prioritizes team success over individual records
Adamson's rookie volleyball player, Shaina Nitura, is making headlines in the UAAP Season 87 tournament. After just seven games, she has already broken scoring records. Nitura has impressed many, including famous players in and out of the league. Nitura holds the record for the highest points total by a rookie in her debut. She also scored an incredible 38 points in a single match, setting an all-time UAAP record. Despite her personal achievements, Nitura says she hasn’t found her favorite moment yet. “I am still hoping that something better happens,” she shared. In a recent match, Nitura scored 18 points, helping her team win against the University of the East. This win ended a four-game losing streak for Adamson, but the team currently stands at 3 wins and 8 losses. Nitura expressed disappointment that her scoring hasn’t led to more team success. “I am sad, but there’s no frustration because everything happens for a reason,” she explained. After their victory, Nitura acknowledged that the performance wasn't perfect. She noted that the team still needs to find better rhythm and coordination. While she is thankful for the recognition from veteran players, Nitura remains focused on winning as a team rather than just personal records. “We want to achieve wins instead of records,” she said. Nitura believes that there's no need to feel pressured about her performance. She aims to avoid distractions and focus on her goals with the team. "If the Lord allows me to break more records, He will. If not, it’s fine because the team’s goal is really to win,” she stated.
