Shaler North Hills Library hosts community programs this spring

Shaler North Hills Library offers a wide range of programs for all ages. Located at 1822 Mt. Royal Blvd, it provides access to over 130,000 items, including books and high-speed internet. The library aims to promote reading and serve the community through various services and programs. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. On April 1, the library will participate in Library Giving Day. This event encourages people to donate to support their local libraries. Shaler North Hills Library plans to use donations for Wonderbooks. These special books combine reading and audio to help children improve their reading skills. Donors will have their names honored with a bookplate in each Wonderbook they help purchase. The library will also host mural workshops on March 24 and 26. These workshops invite community members of all ages to help create a mural for Shaler’s 125th anniversary. No registration is needed, and the mural will be displayed in May. On April 13, a hands-on history presentation about the Vietnam War will take place. Led by Russ Raisig, the session will feature artifacts and documents for families to explore. The presentation supports the Wall That Heals exhibit, which will be at Shaler Area High School from May 23 to 26. Sports history fan Jim Haller will talk about the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 11. His program will cover the team’s history from 1953 to 1960. Registration is required, but drop-ins are welcome as space allows. There are also nature programs for adults on April 3 and May 1. The April program will focus on fossils, while the May session will highlight edible plants. Both require registration and may have limited space. The Friends of Shaler North Hills Library are organizing a spring used book sale from April 25 to 27. The preview night is on April 25, with general sales on the 26th and 27th. It will feature books, audiobooks, DVDs, and games for all ages. Lastly, the library is looking to hire part-time staff for various positions. Interested candidates can apply online or in person at the library.
