Sharjah Police arrest beggar who earned Dh14,000 quickly
Sharjah Police have arrested a beggar who collected Dh14,000 in only three days. The arrest was made by the Anti-Begging Unit in Sharjah in response to public complaints. Brigadier General Omar Al-Ghazal Al-Shamsi explained that begging often leads to security and social issues. The beggar was reported while soliciting money near a mosque, claiming he was in financial distress. Upon arrival, police discovered that he was living in the country illegally. The cash he had was collected quickly, in just three days. This arrest is part of a larger campaign by Sharjah Police called "Begging is a Crime, Giving is a Responsibility." This campaign started at the beginning of Ramadan and aims to tackle begging in the area. Police are increasing patrols to catch beggars and remind people not to give to them. Instead, they encourage the community to report begging by calling 80040 or 901.
