Sheboygan Lutheran supports alum Jacob Ognacevic in tournament
Jacob Ognacevic, a former student at Sheboygan Lutheran High School, is gaining attention as he plays for Lipscomb University in the NCAA tournament. The tournament will take place in Milwaukee on Friday. Ognacevic's high school community is excited and supportive, cheering him on as he competes. Ognacevic, who is 6’8”, joined Sheboygan Lutheran as a sophomore in 2017. His former geography teacher, Jeff Jurss, recalls the excitement he brought to games, saying, “When J.O. was here, every game was packed in the gyms.” Ognacevic led the Crusaders team to a state championship in 2019 and earned awards for his impressive basketball skills. Ognacevic is known not only for his talent on the court but also for his dedication to his studies and character. Athletic Director Al Holzheimer described him as a dedicated student and a humble leader. Ognacevic expressed his enthusiasm about playing in Wisconsin, saying, “I’m really excited to actually play college game in this building back home.” Recently, he was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. His father, Brian, reflected on his son's achievements, stating they are proud not just of his athletic success but also of his personal growth and faith journey. In addition to Ognacevic’s tournament, Sheboygan Lutheran’s boys' basketball team is also competing in the state championship in Madison on the same day. This creates an exciting atmosphere for the school as both teams aim for victory. Ognacevic is hopeful for both himself and his high school team, saying, “I hope they can win...and I hope we can follow it up and win [too].”
