bbc.com November 3, 2024, 09:00 AM UTC

A blue plaque honoring Dave Godin, who coined the term "Northern Soul," will be unveiled in Sheffield. Godin, who moved to Sheffield in the 1980s, is also known for introducing Tamla Motown to the UK.

The plaque will be placed at the former site of The Anvil, an arts cinema that Godin managed. This recognition follows a 15-year campaign led by Chris Rogers, who emphasized Godin's cultural impact.

Godin's legacy includes his role in promoting high-energy soul music and supporting artists like Marvin Gaye and Elton John. The unveiling is scheduled for Sunday at 15:00 GMT.
