A man from Shimlapuri, Manpreet Singh, has lost ₹23 lakh to a fraud scheme involving his wife. He had sent his wife abroad for studies, hoping to join her later through a spouse visa. His dreams of settling abroad were shattered when the situation turned sour. Manpreet's father, Gurcharan Singh, reported that the family of Harpreet Kaur promised to help Manpreet move to Canada. In return for these services, Gurcharan paid ₹23 lakh for visa and college fees. However, once Manpreet arrived in Canada, Harpreet Kaur filed for divorce instead of assisting him with a Permanent Resident status as they had previously agreed. When Gurcharan sought to recover the money from Harpreet's family, they refused to return it. He filed a complaint on August 22, 2024. After an inquiry, the police registered a case at the Dehlon police station. The case involves charges against Harpreet and her parents, Avtar Singh and Gurmeet Kaur. Police are currently searching for the accused.
