Shiv Nadar leads Indian philanthropy with Rs 2,153 crore in FY24 donations
In FY24, Indian philanthropists donated Rs 8,783 crore, a 4% increase from Rs 8,445 crore in FY23. HCL's Shiv Nadar led with Rs 2,153 crore, accounting for a quarter of total donations. Other notable donors included Mukesh Ambani and Rohini Nilekani. The number of business leaders donating over Rs 100 crore rose from two in 2018 to 18 in 2024. Nandan Nilekani saw the largest increase, donating an additional Rs 118 crore this year. Harish Shah's family climbed 53 positions to rank 22nd with Rs 78 crore. Krishna Chivukula was recognized as the "most generous new entrant" for donating Rs 228 crore to IIT Madras. Zerodha's Nithin and Nikhil Kamath also contributed Rs 120 crore, while Susmita and Subroto Bagchi donated Rs 179 crore, entering the top 10.
