Shivamogga's Deputy Lokayukta demands improvements to facilities
Shivamogga: Deputy Lokayukta K.N. Phaneendra recently carried out a surprise inspection in Shivamogga city. His visit on Wednesday highlighted several issues in key areas, including Gandhi Park and the historic Navule Lake. During his inspection, Phaneendra was not pleased with the conditions at Gandhi Park. He gave the Shivamogga City Corporation 20 days to address problems with the toilets, ensure a steady water supply, and improve cleanliness. He also asked for the appointment of a security guard and requested a detailed report on plans for the park within six months. At the nearby Indira Canteen, Phaneendra spoke with customers about the quality of food. While some said the food was acceptable on the day of the visit, many expressed concerns about inconsistency in quality. The Deputy Lokayukta noted these complaints for further action. A resident voiced worries about the water supply in the park next to the Rajendra Nagar drainage channel. Phaneendra criticized officials from the city and irrigation departments for their lack of upkeep in this area. Many people who were walking in the morning shared their concerns with him as well. When asked about the condition of Navule Lake, Deputy Commissioner Gurudatt Hegde was initially unsure about its management history but later explained that it was now under the city's jurisdiction. Officials failed to justify the lake’s poor state, but Hegde promised to clear silt and improve fencing within two months. Phaneendra was not satisfied with the response regarding the lake's management. He announced that he would register a case focusing on Gandhi Park, the drainage channel, and Navule Lake. This case will remain open until satisfactory reports are received. Additionally, he addressed over 35 complaints at Kuvempu Rangamandira during his visit.
