Shreyas Iyer becomes most expensive player in IPL history at 26.75 crore rupees

Shreyas Iyer has become the most expensive player in IPL history after being bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore. This surpasses the previous record of Rs 24.75 crore held by Mitchell Starc. Iyer, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in 2024, was released by KKR before the auction. Delhi Capitals also competed for him, but Punjab Kings ultimately secured the player after a bidding war. Iyer has played 115 IPL matches, scoring 3,127 runs. He is known for his strong middle-order performance and has a career-best score of 96, along with 21 half-centuries.
