Shreyas Iyer has become the most expensive player in IPL history after being sold for Rs 26.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. This surpasses the previous record of Rs 24.75 crore set by Mitchell Starc in 2024. Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title in 2024, is the first IPL-winning captain to enter the auction. His high price reflects significant interest from multiple teams, including Delhi Capitals and KKR. KKR CEO Venky Mysore indicated that the team wanted to retain Iyer but could not agree on financial terms. Iyer was their top priority for retention, but mutual agreement was not reached.
