Shubhanshu Shukla to be first Indian on private ISS
SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft is preparing for an important mission, set to carry Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla to the International Space Station (ISS). This flight is part of Axiom Mission 4, scheduled to launch in spring 2025. Shukla will be the first Indian astronaut to take part in a private mission to the ISS. The mission will depart from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida and is expected to last 14 days. Shubhanshu Shukla is a test pilot with the Indian Air Force and is also involved in India's Gaganyaan program. He will join a diverse international crew led by former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, along with members from Poland and Hungary. While on the ISS, the crew will conduct scientific experiments and engage in public outreach. They will also work on commercial projects. NASA's ISS Program Manager, Dana Weigel, noted that private astronaut missions can enhance access to the microgravity environment. For India, Axiom Mission 4 presents an opportunity to gain valuable experience as the country prepares for its Gaganyaan human spaceflight program. Axiom Space aims to develop commercial space stations, making Ax-4 a significant step for the future of private space travel. Excitement is growing as preparations advance for Shukhla's historic journey.
