Sibal demands transparent judicial appointments and reforms
Kapil Sibal, a senior advocate and member of the Rajya Sabha, has raised concerns about corruption in the judiciary. He stated that this problem has persisted for many years and needs urgent attention. Sibal emphasized the importance of a more transparent process for appointing judges. He believes that the Supreme Court should take a closer look at how judges are selected. During his comments, Sibal also criticized a recent ruling by the Allahabad High Court. The court claimed that actions such as grabbing a woman's breasts or breaking her clothing do not qualify as rape. Sibal referred to this as alarming and questioned the judgment of such judges. Rekha Sharma, the former head of the National Commission for Women (NCW), also expressed her concerns. She agreed with Sibal, saying that judges need to be more aware of the seriousness of sexual assault. Sharma believes that intentions behind actions must be considered in judgments. She urged the NCW to challenge the High Court's ruling in the Supreme Court. The discussion highlights ongoing issues related to judicial accountability and the need for better handling of sexual assault cases in India.
