Signal No. 1 issued for Cagayan and parts of Isabela and Apayao as storm Ofel intensifies

Severe Tropical Storm Ofel has intensified, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to issue Signal No. 1 for Cagayan, northeastern Isabela, and eastern Apayao. Winds of 39-61 km/h are expected in these areas. As of 10 p.m., Ofel was located 630 km east of Virac, Catanduanes, moving west northwest at 25 km/h. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h and gusts up to 135 km/h. PAGASA warns of strong gusts in parts of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes. A minimal to moderate storm surge may affect low-lying coastal areas in Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, Isabela, and northern Aurora in the next 48 hours.
