Similipal National Park in Odisha closed due to storms

Similipal National Park in Odisha will close for two days starting Saturday due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. This closure is necessary to ensure the safety of visitors in the Mayurbhanj district. Park officials announced the decision on March 22. Regional Chief Conservator Prakash Chand Gogineni stated that the situation will be reviewed, and tourists may be allowed to re-enter if the weather improves. Visitors are encouraged to check with authorities for updates before planning their trips. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange warning' for several districts, urging residents to prepare for severe weather. Thunderstorms with strong winds of 40-50 km/h are expected to hit multiple areas, including Nuapada, Bolangir, and Puri. Residents are advised to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and avoid unnecessary travel. The advisory recommends staying away from trees and unplugging electrical appliances due to the risk of storms. Recently, thunderstorms and hailstorms affected several areas in Mayurbhanj and Balasore. Reports indicate that around 4,775 people across 47 villages were impacted. In response, local authorities have set up relief centers and provided shelter and supplies to those in need. A state government team, led by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, will visit the affected areas to assess the situation and meet with local officials.
