Simratt Kaur highlights OTT success of "12th Fail."
Simratt Kaur recently shared her views on why some films, like "12th Fail" and "Laapataa Ladies," have found success on OTT platforms, despite having good scripts when compared to box office hits like "Animal" and "Gadar 2." In her interview, she discussed her experience filming "Vanvaas," which is now available on Zee5, and the strong bond she formed with her co-stars. Kaur believes that the rise of OTT platforms has given struggling films a chance to reach broader audiences. She noted that although "Vanvaas" did not perform well in theaters, reactions from those who did see it were positive. She hopes that its digital release will help it find a larger viewership, emphasizing the importance of word-of-mouth promotion. During the interview, Kaur described an intense memory from filming in Banaras, where they shot a scene close to a cremation site. This experience served as a reality check for her. She also recalled shooting a challenging scene in Shimla under heavy snow, where all the actors were visibly emotional despite the cold. Kaur pointed out a shift in audience preferences, stating that many now choose to watch lighter films on OTT rather than in theaters. She believes that larger-than-life films like "Gadar" are better suited for the big screen due to their action elements. She also reflected on her relationship with her co-star, Utkarsh Sharma. Their friendship grew over time during the shooting of "Gadar 2," and they often discuss their work together. Additionally, Kaur expressed her admiration for director Anil Sharma, highlighting his passion and guidance during filming. He encouraged her to explore classic cinema, which has greatly influenced her understanding of films. "Vanvaas" is currently streaming on Zee5, where Kaur is hopeful it will gain the recognition it deserves.
