Singapore and India plan green digital shipping corridor

economictimes.indiatimes.com

Singapore and India are working on a new agreement to create a green digital shipping corridor (GDSC). This corridor aims to connect India's maritime sector to global shipping networks through Singapore, which is recognized as one of the largest maritime trade hubs in the world. Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal from India is leading a delegation to Singapore for this purpose. They are expected to sign a Letter of Intent (LoI) during the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) from March 24 to 28. Teo Eng Dih, the chief executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), has stated that this agreement is a significant step forward. The GDSC will facilitate the export of green fuels, such as biofuels from India, and encourage the sharing of digital technologies between the two nations. The SMW will also welcome maritime ministers from other countries, including Estonia, France, Portugal, Norway, and the Netherlands. During the event, India will showcase its maritime capabilities with an 'India Pavilion.' This pavilion will feature a variety of Indian ports, shipyards, and companies, including the Indian Ports Association, Cochin Shipyard, and more. This collaboration highlights India’s growing role in the global maritime landscape.
