Singaporean PM visits Vietnam to strengthen bilateral ties
Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will visit Vietnam from March 25 to 26. This trip is at the invitation of Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. It is Wong's first visit to Vietnam since becoming Singapore's leader. The visit comes shortly after a successful trip by Vietnam's General Secretary To Lam to Singapore. During that visit, the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This is an important step in strengthening ties, representing a long-term commitment to collaboration. Vietnam and Singapore have maintained diplomatic relations since 1973. Over the years, their relationship has grown stronger, with a high level of political trust. Singapore is a vital economic partner for Vietnam, known for its high-tech and export-oriented economy. In 2024, bilateral trade between the two countries is expected to reach $10.3 billion. Singapore ranks second globally in terms of investment in Vietnam, with significant projects like the Singapore-Vietnam Industrial Parks attracting over $18.7 billion in investment. Both nations are also focusing on new areas of cooperation, such as the Green Economy and Digital Economy Partnership. Additionally, they work together on security issues, including cybersecurity and combating transnational crime. Their shared perspectives on regional and international matters further enhance their collaboration.
