Sinkhole closes eastbound lanes of I-80 in New Jersey after collapse into mine
A sinkhole has closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in New Jersey after a section collapsed into an abandoned mine. The hole, measuring 40 feet wide, opened Thursday morning. Road crews are working continuously to repair the damaged area near Wharton, about 40 miles from New York City. The New Jersey Department of Transportation has stabilized the site and begun excavation. It is unclear when the eastbound lanes will reopen. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes during the repairs.
