Sinkhole closes eastbound lanes of I-80 in New Jersey after mine collapse
A sinkhole has closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in northern New Jersey after a section collapsed into an abandoned mine. The hole, measuring 40 feet wide, opened Thursday morning near Wharton, about 40 miles from New York City. Road crews are currently stabilizing the area and excavating the site. It is unclear when the eastbound lanes will reopen, as repairs depend on their extent and weather conditions. Motorists are being diverted and should expect delays. The New Jersey Department of Transportation is working around the clock to restore the roadway.
