Residents of Arundhathiyar Colony in Siraikulam panchayat are urging local authorities to take action against a land encroacher. On Monday, they submitted a petition to Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon to restore their burial ground. Mugavai Durairaj, one of the residents, stated that the land has been used by the Scheduled Caste community for many years. Recently, a land broker from Ervadi began encroaching on the land. This has made it difficult for residents to bury their deceased loved ones. Durairaj mentioned that some families have had to carry the bodies to nearby villages, where they faced difficulties in finding places to bury them. He claimed that local officials, who are close to the land broker, have not responded to their complaints. The petitioners are demanding the removal of the encroachments from the graveyard. They are also calling for action against the land broker under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act of 1989.
