Siran Neal signs with San Francisco 49ers
The Miami Dolphins are losing cornerback Siran Neal, a key player on their special teams. He is leaving to join the San Francisco 49ers on a two-year contract. This news follows a change in the Dolphins' special teams coordinator, with Craig Aukerman taking over from Danny Crossman. Neal played for the Dolphins for one season and had hoped to return. He expressed his love for Miami during a recent fundraising event, mentioning the nice weather and his past experiences. Neal indicated he had been in touch with Aukerman, who previously had experience coaching against him while he played for the Buffalo Bills. In 2024, Neal participated in 84 percent of the Dolphins' special teams plays and also played some defensive snaps. The Dolphins have recently acquired former Miami Hurricanes cornerback Artie Burns, who could fill a similar role as a special teams contributor. Aukerman’s special teams squad is attracting attention during this year's free agency. The team also signed former Titans punter Ryan Stonehouse and re-signed safety Elijah Campbell, who may also contribute to special teams.
