Sivaganga man receives life sentence for murdering wife
A court in Sivaganga sentenced a man to life in prison for murdering his wife in 2017. V. Selvakumar, 31, was found guilty by the mahila court. He had been married to B. Sri Vidya, 27, since 2014. Reports indicate he pressured her to ask her family for ₹10 lakh to build a house. On December 8, 2017, an argument escalated. In a fit of rage, Selvakumar set his wife's saree on fire, leading to her death. The Kalaiyarkovil police investigated and arrested Selvakumar along with several family members. His father, mother, sister, and a relative faced charges as well. The court found Selvakumar, his mother, and sister guilty. Judge Gokul Kumaran sentenced Selvakumar to life imprisonment and fined him ₹21,000. His mother and sister received two-year prison terms and a fine of ₹17,000 each. The judge also ordered action against the victim’s father for providing false testimony during the trial.
