Six arrested after clash in Imphal, Manipur

Police in Manipur have arrested six people linked to a clash between two groups on March 22, 2025. The two groups involved are the Arambai Tenggol (AT), a Meitei group, and the United National Liberation Front Pambei faction (UNLF-P). The violence occurred in the Imphal East district. The conflict began when about 15 to 20 members of the AT attacked a member of the UNLF-P at his home. Following the clash, four UNLF-P members received medical attention and were then arrested. The police statement indicated that the arrests were made after a search operation at the Arambai Tenggol camp in Khurai, where weapons and suspected illegal drugs were found. The police confirmed that all individuals arrested were connected to the altercation at Kongpal Khong. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects. This incident follows the UNLF-P's signing of a ceasefire agreement with the central government on November 29, 2023. In related news, AT members previously turned in 246 illegal weapons to the authorities after a call from state governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. This included assault rifles and explosives handed over on February 28.
