Six brands now accept only card payments
Six major high street brands, including Zizzi's and Gail's Bakery, have stopped accepting cash payments in some or all of their stores. These businesses now only accept card payments, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Zizzi's has gone fully cash-free, while Gail's Bakery only accepts cards at all locations. Itsu has been implementing card-only rules since 2019, and supermarkets like Tesco and Asda have also introduced cashless options at select sites. Pro-cash campaigners criticize this trend, calling it unacceptable and advocating for laws to require cash acceptance. However, it is legal for businesses to refuse cash payments, as shop owners can choose their preferred payment methods.
