Six security personnel killed as protests for Imran Khan escalate in Pakistan
Protests in Pakistan demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan turned violent, resulting in the deaths of six security personnel and injuries to over 100 others. The unrest escalated as protesters entered Islamabad, despite government efforts to control the situation. In response to the violence, the federal government deployed the army and issued shoot-at-sight orders. Authorities had previously imposed Section 144, banning public gatherings, and closed educational institutions in the capital for security reasons. Imran Khan has faced over 200 legal charges since his ousting in 2022. His supporters, led by his wife, began their protest march from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and reached Islamabad, where they encountered significant roadblocks.
