A federal grand jury in Louisville has indicted 16 individuals living in the U.S. illegally. This announcement was made by officials from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Kentucky on Wednesday. Of the 16 indicted, 14 individuals are charged with illegal reentry. These 14 had previously been removed or deported from the U.S. Two individuals among these also face charges for illegal possession of a firearm. The remaining two were indicted solely for firearm possession. If convicted, those charged with illegal reentry could face up to two years in prison. Firearm-related charges carry a potential sentence of up to 15 years. Those facing both charges could spend up to 17 years behind bars, officials stated. This development follows the arrests of 81 people in Kentucky. These arrests took place from March 10 to 14 as part of "Operation Take Back America." The operation was a collaboration between Homeland Security Investigations in Nashville and Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Chicago. Of the 81 arrested, 25 have also been charged with immigration-related offenses, including illegal reentry and illegal possession of firearms and controlled substances. Many of the recent indictments are connected to those arrests made during the operation.
