Sky unlikely to release new satellite products

An expert has warned that people using satellite dishes for Sky TV might be facing difficulties ahead. Paolo Pescatore from PP Foresight stated that it is "highly unlikely" Sky will release a new satellite product. Sky Q is the current service that replaced standard satellite offerings. It includes features like multi-channel recording and multi-room access. However, Sky has been focusing on streaming services like Sky Glass and Sky Stream, which do not require a satellite dish. Recently, Sky launched an updated version of Sky Glass but did not refresh the Sky Q service. Sky has a contract that allows it to continue satellite broadcasts until at least 2029. However, the long-term future of these services looks uncertain. Pescatore mentioned that Sky's goal is to move all users to its internet-based products, putting Sky Q at risk. Sky Q has advantages, like the ability to record shows directly to a hard drive, which is not possible with the internet-based options. For those with a satellite dish, there is an alternative to Sky. Freesat is a free satellite TV service that allows users to access channels without a Sky subscription. Existing satellite dishes can be used to set up Freesat. This option can be connected to smart TVs or a Freesat recorder for additional functionality.
