Slough restaurant fined £9k for hygiene violations
A husband and wife, Pervez and Ryhana Akhtar, have been fined over £9,000 for food safety violations at their restaurant, New Shahi Spice, in Slough. Inspectors from Slough Council discovered several serious problems during a visit in February 2024. They found mouse droppings and a ceiling covered in cobwebs at the establishment. At Slough Magistrates' Court, Pervez admitted to eight breaches of food safety and hygiene regulations. Ryhana admitted to four breaches. Pervez was fined a total of £5,000, which included £2,250 in fines, £1,850 in costs, and a £900 surcharge. Ryhana was fined a total of £2,050, comprising £750 in fines, £1,000 in costs, and a £300 surcharge. The Slough Borough Council has been contacted for further comments on the matter.
