Smugglers abandon vehicle after confrontation in Hoshiarpur

Police and forest officials seized a pickup truck loaded with illegally cut khair wood in Saleran village on Friday night. The vehicle was abandoned by the suspects after getting stuck while trying to escape. Village sarpanch Navjinder Bedi reported that he was shot at when he attempted to stop the vehicle. The bullet hit his car's front glass, but the suspects fled the scene. Authorities have registered an attempt to murder case against unidentified individuals based on Bedi's statement. Additional charges under the Indian Forest Act have also been filed.
