Social Democratic Party projected to win Romania's parliamentary elections
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) is projected to win Romania's parliamentary elections, securing over 23% of the vote. This positions them ahead of the far-right Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR), which has around 18%. Other parties, including the National Liberal Party (PNL) and Save Romania Union (USR), received about 14.5% and 11.8% of the votes, respectively. Three additional parties also surpassed the 5% threshold to enter parliament. The election follows a contentious presidential race where far-right candidate Călin Georgescu received the most votes. Incumbent Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, who placed third, resigned as PSD leader, acknowledging the significant message from voters.
