A 45-year-old man named M. Vinayakam was arrested in Avalur village near Kaveripakkam town, Ranipet, on Thursday. He is accused of murdering his father, G. Munusamy, during a dispute over property. Vinayakam, a mason who is currently unemployed, lived with his father and stepmother, M. Vijaya, for many years. Tensions between Vinayakam and Munusamy had increased in recent months, especially regarding an ancestral four-acre piece of land. Munusamy was actively farming the land and earning money through matrimonial work. The conflict escalated when Vinayakam demanded the transfer of the land to him. Munusamy refused, insisting that his son should focus on finding a steady job. In anger, Vinayakam attacked both his father and stepmother with a wooden log. Neighbors heard their cries for help and rushed to the scene. They took the injured pair to Government Taluk Hospital in Walajah town. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced Munusamy dead upon arrival. The Walajah police have registered a case and are investigating the matter further.
