Southern Tamil Nadu districts experience heavy summer rainfall
The southern districts of Tamil Nadu, including Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi, saw significant rainfall on Saturday. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai reported light to moderate rain across parts of Tamil Nadu due to a weather system in the region. In Thoothukudi, heavy rain started early Saturday and led to flooding in major areas and roads. The district recorded 10.20 mm of rain by 6 a.m. on Saturday. Other rainfall totals included 29.20 mm in Sattankulam and 8 mm in Kulasekarapattinam. In Tirunelveli, continuous rain in the western ghats resulted in a ban on tourists at Agasthiyar falls and Manimuthar falls. Rainfall in the district varied throughout the day, with Palayamkottai receiving the highest at 35 mm. Kanniyakumari experienced light to moderate rain, especially in its western and hilly areas. The Thirparappu region recorded the most rain in the district with 36.8 mm. Tenkasi also saw rainfall, with the Karuppanathi dam region receiving 3.50 mm. The rainfall is expected to continue as weather conditions persist in the area.
