Souths urged to release unplayed $2m player Dodd
The Rabbitohs are considering extending veteran player Cody Walker's contract, which could lead to a difficult decision regarding new recruit Lewis Dodd. Walker, 35, is expected to sign a one-year deal worth approximately $650,000 for the 2026 season. Dodd has just begun his three-year contract, also at around $650,000 per season, but he has yet to play a game and is currently in reserve grade. The club's salary cap situation is tight, with only $150,000 available this season. This limits their ability to sign other players, including Brandon Smith. With Walker performing well and looking to be retained, the management now faces a tough choice about Dodd. Sports analysts suggest that keeping Dodd as a reserve player is not financially viable, and the club may need to consider paying him to play elsewhere. Other players, like Jamie Humphries, are also part of the equation. Humphries is currently on a minimum wage contract but could see an increase in pay if his performance continues. There are concerns that the Rabbitohs must act quickly to resolve this issue as Dodd’s future looks uncertain.
