Spain and Italy reject increased EU aid for Ukraine
Ukraine has faced a setback as two important EU countries, Spain and Italy, have declined a proposal to increase financial aid to Ukraine. The plan, which was suggested by the EU's foreign policy chief, aimed to raise support from €20 billion last year to €40 billion by 2025. Spain and Italy argue that it is premature to make such a commitment, especially amid ongoing negotiations between the U.S. and Russia. They are concerned about the implications of these talks for Europe's approach to Ukraine. France, a strong ally of Ukraine, has also expressed worries about the proposed funding increase. This response highlights divisions within the EU regarding support for Ukraine as it continues to struggle against Russian aggression.
