Spain's Golden Visa changes may increase rental prices
British tourists in Spain may face higher costs for holiday home rentals due to a change in the country's Golden Visa program. This program, which has helped many non-EU residents secure residency through property investment, will officially end on April 3. Experts predict that the end of the Golden Visa could lead to fewer available rental properties. William Cooper, a marketing director, explained that some expats who previously moved to Spain under this scheme might choose to sell their homes. This could reduce the number of properties available for tourists and increase rental prices. Cooper noted that potential investors might now turn to other countries with more flexible visa options, like Canada and Australia. This shift could slow down property sales to UK buyers in popular areas. The upcoming changes may significantly impact short-term holidays and the tourism industry. Fewer available properties could limit options for visitors, making rentals more expensive. Additionally, those on Spain's Digital Nomad Visa, allowing remote workers to live in the country, could face challenges finding affordable housing in key locations. Despite Spain reaching high tourism numbers last summer, reduced foreign investment might lead to serious consequences. Cooper highlighted that British retirees, who contribute greatly to local economies, could also be affected.
