Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) took action against two female students on Thursday. They were found drinking alcohol and smoking in the girls’ hostel. They also harassed another student. The harassment had been happening for several months. The victim reported the incidents to the university on March 18. In response, the university contacted the parents of the two students involved. According to Jyoti Bhakare, the in-charge registrar, the university took written assurances from the students and their parents. They promised to behave properly for the rest of their time at the hostel. The students will also receive counselling. The university has strict rules regarding behavior in hostels. These rules prohibit alcohol, drugs, smoking, and other misconduct. An anonymous official stated that such actions can lead to serious consequences. Prachi Kadam, a second-year student, emphasized the importance of the university's actions. She hopes this incident will discourage similar behavior in the future.
