Spring 2025 in NYC starts with rain and strong winds
Spring in New York City began with rain, fog, and cold temperatures on Thursday. The official start of the season happened early in the morning at 5:01 a.m. ET. However, the day turned gray and wet, with patchy fog and coastal drizzle affecting the area. Heavy rain is expected to start around 8 p.m. and could last until 2 a.m. Forecasters predict that up to three-quarters of an inch may fall. The temperature will drop to about 41 degrees overnight. Winds will begin from the southeast at 9-13 mph but will shift to the northwest after midnight. On Friday morning, the skies should gradually clear, although it will remain mostly cloudy at first. Strong winds will continue, with gusts reaching nearly 40 mph. A dense fog advisory is in effect for parts of Long Island Sound and nearby bays until 2 a.m. Friday. A gale warning is also active until 6 p.m. Friday, signaling that winds could be very strong. Forecasters warn that these winds can create dangerous sea conditions, and boaters should be cautious and secure their vessels.
