Spring break travel is popular among Michiganders this year
Spring break is here, and many people in Michigan are making travel plans. Most public schools in southeastern Michigan will be on break from March 22 to March 30, 2025. A new survey by AAA shows that 84% of Michigan residents intend to take at least one vacation this year. The survey, conducted from January 16 to January 21, found that nearly 20% of those surveyed plan to travel during spring break. Popular U.S. destinations include Orlando, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia. International travelers are looking at places like Rome, Italy, and London, England. When asked about the types of vacations they prefer, 41% of Michiganders said they would choose a beach destination. Road trips and city visits were also popular, with 29% and 22% selecting these options, respectively. Other choices included theme parks and international travel. Travel costs are rising. The average round-trip flight within the United States is now $820, a 7% increase from last year. For international flights, the average cost is $1,440, a 2% rise. Safety is a top priority for travelers. Experts recommend traveling in groups, knowing local laws, and securing personal items. Travelers should also drink responsibly and be aware of scams. Additionally, it is important to note that by May 7, 2025, adults will need a REAL ID to travel within the United States. Travelers are encouraged to prepare ahead of time and check for updates on the Michigan Department of State’s website.
