Spring gardening requires effective weed control strategies
As spring arrives, gardeners are encouraged to focus on weed control to protect their plants. Using pre-emergent herbicides like Dimension and Treflan can prevent weeds before they grow. Dimension lasts 120 days, while Treflan lasts 90 days. Post-emergent herbicides can also be used to manage existing weeds, but care is needed around desirable plants. Hand-pulling weeds is another option, but roots must be fully removed to prevent regrowth. Additionally, applying systemic insecticides to boxwoods can protect them from pests like leaf miners and psyllids. This treatment helps keep boxwoods healthy, although it does not affect the more damaging box tree moth.
