Springfield Thunderbirds lose to Hershey Bears, extend streak
The Springfield Thunderbirds faced off against the Hershey Bears on Wednesday night, losing 4-2. Despite a strong effort in the final period, the Thunderbirds couldn't overcome the defending champions. Springfield's goalie, Colten Ellis, had a solid start after a tough weekend. He made 15 saves in the first period, stopping some key shots from Hershey. On the other side, Hershey’s goalie, Hunter Shepard, faced fewer shots but made important saves, especially during power plays. The Bears scored first at 10:54 in the second period when Matt Strome found the net. They extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal by Bogdan Trineyev shortly after. The Thunderbirds needed a boost, and they got one from Hugh McGing, who helped set up a power-play goal by MacKenzie MacEachern, closing the gap to 2-1. Springfield capitalized on their momentum and tied the game with Dvorsky’s goal on a 5-on-3 power play. However, Hershey responded quickly with Ethan Bear scoring to regain the lead. An empty-net goal from Pierrick Dube sealed the win for the Bears. The Thunderbirds will look to bounce back when they host the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday night at the Thunderdome.
