Springfield voters to elect two school board members
Springfield voters will choose two school board members on April 8. Four candidates are running: incumbent Kelly Byrne and newcomers Sarah Hough, David Myers, and Gail Smart. The top two vote-getters will serve three-year terms. Candidates participated in a forum hosted by the Springfield Council of PTAs. Fundraising reports show Smart raised the most money, followed closely by Hough. Various groups, including teachers' associations and political action committees, have begun endorsing candidates. Board member Steve Makoski, elected in 2022, will not seek re-election. He plans to pursue other opportunities. The school board sets policy, approves budgets, and hires the superintendent.
