St. Patrick names Tom Zbikowski as new football coach

St. Patrick has appointed Tom Zbikowski as its new football coach. Zbikowski, a former NFL player and All-American at Notre Dame, aims to instill a disciplined approach in the team. He previously served as an assistant coach at Brown and Western Michigan. Zbikowski replaces Luke Mertens, who resigned after a 2-7 season. Mertens had a three-year record of 8-19, and the team has not made the state playoffs since 2021-22. Zbikowski is among several ex-NFL players now coaching high school teams in the area. Zbikowski will officially start on February 1 and plans to speak to the St. Patrick community during a basketball game on January 24. He has a background as a professional boxer and worked as a firefighter and EMT in Chicago.
