Stability AI launches model transforming 2D images to videos
Stability AI has launched a new tool called Stable Virtual Camera. This AI model can turn flat, 2D images into realistic, 3D videos. The technology aims to create immersive experiences with depth and perspective. Stable Virtual Camera allows users to generate new views of a scene using one or more images. It can handle up to 32 pictures and offers various camera angles. Users can create videos that follow specific paths, such as "Spiral" or "Pan." Currently, this model is a research preview. It can produce videos in different aspect ratios: square, portrait, and landscape. However, Stability AI warns that the results may not always be good, especially with images of people, animals, or certain textures. Complex scenes or irregular shapes can lead to visual glitches. The tool is available for research purposes under a non-commercial license. Users can download it from the Hugging Face platform. Stability AI has faced challenges in the past, including leadership issues and financial troubles. Recently, the company hired a new CEO and brought on board filmmaker James Cameron. It has also been working on new AI models, including one for generating audio effects for mobile devices.
