Stalin requests action against disruptive DMK ally MLA
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has expressed his disappointment with MLA T. Velmurugan for his disruptive behavior during an assembly session. Stalin spoke directly to Speaker M. Appavu, asking for action to be taken against Velmurugan, who is part of the DMK’s coalition. The incident occurred during a budget debate when Velmurugan accused the former AIADMK government of not implementing a policy that reserved 20% of positions for Tamil medium students in uniformed services exams. He claimed that no one had been selected by the recruitment board in ten years. In response, Deputy Leader of Opposition R.B. Udhayakumar dismissed Velmurugan’s claims as too general. Tensions escalated when Velmurugan attempted to raise a point of order, leading to a heated exchange with Minister P.K. Sekarbabu. Despite being urged several times by Deputy Speaker K. Pitchandi to return to his seat, Velmurugan remained in the aisle, continuing the argument. In light of the situation, Speaker Appavu warned Velmurugan about the consequences of his actions. Stalin described the MLA’s behavior as "meddlesome" and urged him to reflect on his conduct. Following the session, Velmurugan defended his actions, stating he was entitled to raise a point of order against the AIADMK.
